Suspension means that an apprenticeship or traineeship is placed ‘on-hold’ temporarily. The Suspension of the apprenticeship or traineeship does not suspend the employment relationship between the apprentice/trainee and Master Builders. The apprentice/trainee is still employed by Master Builders.
If an apprentice/trainee’s job placement with their Host Employer ceases for any reason and Master Builders is unable to find the apprentice/trainee another immediate job placement, the apprentice/trainee will be placed on Suspension as per Training Services NSW requirements.
Master Builders will complete the necessary paperwork to request the Suspension of the Training Contract with Training Services NSW. The apprentice/trainee will need to sign the Suspension Request form indicating that they agree to the Suspension Period.
If an Employee does not agree to the Suspension Period, the only alternative option for Master Builders is to terminate the Employment Contract.
The apprentice/trainee will remain on Suspension until they are placed with another Host Employer or until the end of the Suspension Period, whichever occurs first.
The Suspension Period is up to three (3) months. During this time Master Builders will attempt to place the apprentice/trainee with another Host Employer.
An extension of the Suspension period of up to a further three (3) months may be made under certain circumstances and in these cases, Master Builders will discuss this option with the apprentice/trainee.
If after a three (3) month Suspension period, Master Builders is unable to find the Employee a suitable position, Master Builders will commence the process of cancelling the Apprenticeship and terminating the Employment Contract.
Employees are not entitled to be paid wages while on Suspension.
Employees do not accrue any annual leave, sick leave, RDOs or other entitlements while on Suspension
