Master Builders Association of New South Wales acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of the lands on which we work around NSW and their connections to land, sea, and community.
We acknowledge the continuation of cultural, spiritual, and educational practices of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and in particular would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which our offices are located in NSW:
Master Builders has a long-standing involvement in the employment and training of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through our apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities within the Building and Construction Industry. We are committed to engaging and partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, peoples, communities, and businesses to embed their cultures and knowledge within our work environment and that of the broader Building and Construction Industry.
There has never been a better time for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders to enter the skilled trades. Certified skilled tradespeople are in high demand, and there are good skilled trades jobs in every corner of New South Wales. Trades training and certification provide opportunities for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people to work in the heart of the city or work close to their community. With qualifications being recognised nationally, tradespeople are qualified to work anywhere in Australia.
6% of the apprentices employed by Master Builders identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders (figure as at March 2024). This is a number we are extremely proud of and one we are continuing to work hard to grow.
Master Builders Apprenticeship Services support our Indigenous apprentices in a number of ways, including
- Mentoring and Support through an assigned Field Officer
- Pre-apprenticeship Programs
- Promotion of our indigenous apprentices in social media
- Networking events
- Additional mentoring and support as needed
- Connections and partnerships with Indigenous businesses, communities, support groups and job networks
