There is no maximum age limit for apprentices or trainees but there is a minimum age requirement of 15 years (with the consent of a parent or guardian). Master Builders recommend that students considering an apprenticeship in Building and Construction complete at least up to year 11 or school (and preferably go through to the end of year 12) to have the best chance of securing an apprenticeship. Employers highly favour students that have shown the commitment to complete Year 12 and the additional maturity that this brings. It also means it is more likely that the apprentice will have a drivers licence by this stage which is also highly regarded.
Master Builders also recommend that students going on to Year 11 and 12 continue to do Maths as part of their studies (General Math will suffice) as this will also greatly assist with the mathematical calculations required within their apprenticeship and into their trades career.
