A carpenter specialises in creating structures using a variety of materials including timber, concrete and steel. Carpentry is a physically demanding job that requires planning skills; as well as the ability to work with a team of trade workers.
A carpenter will undertake a large range of tasks that include but are not limited to:
- Study drawings and plans to determine materials, dimensions and procedures required
- Construct and erect timber or steel framework and roof structures
- Lay flooring and floorboards
- Frame and install doors and windows
- Construct formwork in preparation for concreting
- Repair existing or install new fittings including stairs, window, doors, wallboards and floors
