Why are Career Expos Important for High School Students?

Career expos provide a great opportunity for students to research and explore their options to plan for their future when school is completed. In attendance at these events are many industry professionals and representatives from education and training providers who are more than willing to provide relevant and up-to-date industry information.

As well as for students, career expos are helpful to school teachers, career advisors and parents/carers who are also researching for their own knowledge on behalf of young people. Career Expos are a great way to update your knowledge about certain industries and to learn about the career pathway options available.

These events provide students with the opportunity to speak with education and training providers and potential employers about their options, by asking questions and gathering insights. Students can find out about the qualifications and skills required to start a career in a particular industry of interest and potential employment opportunities. Students can take away with them brochures and information to help them make comparisons and discuss their thoughts and opinions with their friends and family after the event.

There’s no such thing as a silly question. Students are encouraged to come prepared with their questions. It is also a good idea to bring a copy of the most up-to-date resume.

The Master Builders Association of NSW will be attending Career Expos across Sydney and surrounds in 2025. If you know of a young person considering a career in Building or Construction, or would just like to know more about what career pathways and roles are available in the industry, make sure they come along and visit the stand.

What is a Group Training Organisation?

Group Training Organisations (GTOs) facilitate an employment and training arrangement whereby they employ apprentices and trainees under an Apprenticeship/Traineeship Training Contract and place them with Host Employers.

The GTO undertakes the employer’s responsibilities for the quality and continuity of the apprentices’ and/or trainees’ employment and training. The GTO also provides care and support for the apprentice or trainee throughout their engagement with the GTO.

Master Builders is a Group Training Organisation recognised as a provider of choice for building and construction apprentice, trainee and trade employment solutions. We are committed to supporting, promoting, and employing apprentices and trainees in the building and construction industry and have been doing so for more than 45 years.
