Building careers from the start with the Master Builders Pre-Apprenticeship program.

Are you looking to recruit new team members for your building and construction projects in 2025? Look no further than Master Builders Apprenticeship Services. In January 2025 another new cohort of 17 young people are looking to begin their building careers after completing the Master Builders Pre-Apprenticeship program.

The Pre-Apprenticeship program continues to gain momentum as a popular choice for young people entering the industry. Located at the Master Builders education centre in Norwest, it is a 3-week program with the perfect blend of theoretical classes and practical Carpentry workshop skills. The program includes practical skills in Carpentry framing, foundations, flooring and decking. The Pre-apprentices also learnt essential work health and safety practices by completing training courses such as:

  • Work Safely at Heights
  • Safe Use of Power Tools, and
  • Manual Handling.

“Any of these students will be a great asset to your team”, explains licensed builder Tony Brown, who has been training and assessing since 2010. “They have all excelled in this program displaying maturity and a willingness to learn. They are dedicated and turn up on time every morning travelling from all areas of Sydney. They all had a great attitude towards learning and completing the assessments on time. They were punctual and respectful throughout their training. They were open to learning new skills and gaining knowledge, and I am confident that any of these students would make ideal apprentices to work on your team”.

All the students enjoy the program as they make new friends and learn a lot in a jam-packed 3 weeks. The Master Builders Pre-Apprenticeship program is a fantastic stepping stone to help young people transition from school to the workplace and eventually start an apprenticeship. It also gives them a good taste of Carpentry and helps them decide which trade they would consider for an apprenticeship.

Peter G, 18 years old, from Parramatta

“The Pre-apprenticeship program was enjoyable learning both theory and practical. I have made new friends by working closely in a team to complete the tasks. It gave me an understanding of what it would be like to be a Master Builders Apprentice.”

Lincoln T, 15 years old, from Penrith

“The Pre-Apprenticeship will now help me to make a start in Cabinet Making. The trainers Tony and Chris made it a comfortable environment and encouraged lots of teamwork. When I was struggling to understand something, they helped me by demonstrating it step by step. This way of learning helped me a lot with my confidence”.

Amir A, 18 years old, from Parramatta

“I am already familiar with working in the industry with my Dad. It was important for me to learn health and safety practices onsite, especially the Work Safely at Heights course, and the Safe Use of Power Tools training. I learnt a lot about Australian Standards and now I feel confident about my future in the industry.”

It is these young people who are the future of the industry and are keen to make a start in their apprenticeship. The Master Builders are looking for Host Employers with building projects in Western Sydney who will give these young people a chance on the worksite to learn about the trade with on-the-job practical training to align with the vocational Certificate III trade qualification.

You don’t have to be a member of the Master Builders Association of NSW to recruit an apprentice. The team at Master Builders can support you in recruiting and mentoring a new young person to help you build a strong team. You can save time and effort sourcing and recruiting an apprentice.
