We thought it would be a great idea to interpret some of the jargon/acronyms you will probably see and hear regularly on the construction site.
Please note this is not a definitive list and different companies may use different terminology.
Hazards and Incidents
Hazard – Something that has the potential to cause harm.
Risk – An assessment of how much harm the hazard could cause.
Incident – An event causing injury or damage/harm to environment and/or plant.
Forms
JRA – Job Risk Assessment.
JHA – Job Hazard Assessment.
SWMS – Safe Work Method Statements.
RAC – Risk Assessment Checklist.
Reporting
FAI – First Aid Injury. An injury that can be treated by a person trained as a Senior First Aid.
MTI – Medically Treated Injury. An injury that requires treatment from someone with a higher qualification than a Senior First Aid certificate. Eg Doctor, Nurse, Specialist.
LTI – Lost Time Injury. An injury that causes a loss of a full work day or more.
LTIFR – Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate.
RTIFR – Reported Total Injury Frequency Rate.
General
WHS – Workplace Health and Safety ( replacing the term OHS or Occupational Health and Safety).
PPE – Personal Protective Equipment.
PPC – Personal Protective Clothing.
